"I hate reading." "Reading is boring." How many times have you heard this?
I would bet at least once a day. Motivating middle students to read is a challenge.
I strongly believe when students have a choice in what they read, motivation to read
increases. It is important to find out what your students are interested in. Once
you know their interests, then you can steer them towards books they will enjoy.
